January 28, 2008 - It's Alive!!

J.D. and I had our second appointment today and everything went great. All my bloodwork (five vials worth) came back normal and most exciting of all-we heard the baby's heart beat!! Baby Yamo is alive and pumping!! It feels much more real now. Our next appointment is in 4 weeks and then we'll have the sonogram 4 weeks after that (end of March).

Once a Camel, Not Always a Camel

I have been known to drink large quantities of water. In fact, after passing out during an employee meeting 2 years ago (it wasn't embarrassing at all. I just hit my head on the metal bar of a door in front of 200 or so people and they called 911 to check me out)..the EMT's told me to cut back on my water consumption. So, I cut back, but still love the H2O. And I had this amazing ability to drink, drink, and drink without having to use the bathroom. I used to joke that I had a wooden leg. Well...the little bambino has put a stop to that! I now wake up a minimum of 2 times per night to use the bathroom!! I think this is nature's way of slowly easing me into an interrupted sleep pattern. I guess I should still enjoy the sleep I'm getting now...come August, I'll be lucky to sleep for more then 2 hours at a time (not excited about that). I am curious to see if the dogs will wake up with us when the bambino wakes up or if they'll sleep through it. Time will tell!

January 25, 2008 - Thoughts on the First Trimester

Before pregnancy, I had this notion that I'd feel fabulous the first and second trimester with no symptoms (other then the growing stomach and some fatigue). Well people-that is not the case at all!! I am nauseous 24/7 and have food aversions to almost everything. Here is a list of the most avoided foods/smells:
  • soups (this is very disappointing because I was planning to eat lentil soup every day for my veggie intake!)
  • sauces
  • oil (the smell of anything cooking in any type of oil)
  • garlic
  • onions
  • coffee (to be honest-I hated this smell before I was pregnant, it is just worse now)
  • cigarette smoke
  • chicken
The doctor recommended ginger ale to help my stomach, but as you know, I don't drink soda, so when I started to drink it that made me sick too!! I figured out the prenatal vitamin is making the nausea worse. So..I can either take it at night, and wake up in the middle of slumber needing to vomit and have a decent day. Or, take it in the morning, feel horrible throughout the day, but sleep better at night. It is a toss up! To add to all this-I can feel my stomach growing (to be more accurate I guess I should refer to it as the uterus) and it is pretty painful. It has actually woken me up sometimes!!

All in all, I'm not that tired. I was expecting to fall asleep every night around 8pm but I stay up as late as I did before without any issues.

I am really excited (and J.D is too) to start feeling good again. I am hoping that the nausea will die down when the 2nd trimester starts, which is in less then 2 weeks.

AND-we can finally start telling people that we are pregnant!!

January 4, 2008 - First Doctors Appointment

Today was our first doctors appointment. We met with the nurse and reviewed all the basic information about diet, exercise and everything prenatal. She said I was in great shape and all my initial tests came out perfect. It was pretty exciting!!

We also found out the official due date: August 20, 2008. A summer baby!!

December 13, 2007 - We're Pregnant!!

After close to 2 years of trying to get pregnant and multiple infertility tests (they couldn't find anything wrong)....we're pregnant!!

The day could not have been more perfect. I was on vacation and J.D. surprised me with breakfast in bed and a trip to the spa for our anniversary (our anniversary is the 18th but we were celebrating early because we had company coming in town). After the fabulous massage, manicure and pedicure, I decided to take a pregnancy test. I was a few days late and was trying to wait a few more days until I took a test (believe me..after this long I learned not to get my hopes up), but my girlfriend had bought me a bunch of tests from the dollar store so I thought..why not. There was the faintest positive line on the test so I bought a name brand test and boom-the plus sign was bright as can be-I started screaming and jumping up and down. (the dogs went crazy too, although they had no idea why!) I bought a few cute outfits and wrapped them up. When J.D. came home, I gave him his 'anniversary present' and he was totally shocked!! (and thrilled of course)!
