Prepare yourself everyone-I have A LOT of photos to post from our Thanksgiving adventure. Check back later this week to see the first leg of our journey. However, before we jump into our fabulous road trip, we need to go back a few weeks to Austin. Julia competed in her first ever soccer tournament. She and JD drove over Saturday morning and she warmed up with her team. Her first game was at 1:30pm and they didn't get done until almost 10pm. You read that correctly-10pm. It was 50 degrees and raining most of the day (JD was miserable) but the kids had a blast. She played on a co-ed team (technically they were the boys division, we didn't have enough girls to form a team) U7 (7 and under).

They were in a 6 team bracket and made it into the semi finals. JD said their quality of play really increased from game 1 to game 5 and Julia scored several goals. They won their final game and placed third. This is the first time in her (short) sports career that she received a performance based medal. Great job Space City! Julia has a few more soccer tournaments in December (local this time) and she is excited. I'm also excited to watch her play. It's incredible to see how much she has improved over the last few months. Happy Monday everyone!
Happy Monday everyone. We leave for vacation in a few days, so even though Julia was sick yesterday from 9am to 2:30am this morning (horrible stomach bug and let's hope no one else gets it)-we are all really excited. JD and Julia were in Austin this weekend at her first ever out of town soccer tournament. I'll do a post later this week with photos and video, but other than Julia getting sick at the hotel yesterday morning (and the entire drive home), the actual tournament was great. Luke and I stayed home for his soccer game on Saturday. It was a tough game but the weather was beautiful. One of the mom's also made amazing snack bags for the kids complete with customized Tiger Bumblebee labels for the kids, bottled water, oreos, popcorn and best of all-a mustache! Luke had so much fun with his he kept it on almost all day. It was hilarious. We went to dinner at the Fancy Restaurant (aka McAllister's Deli) and everyone was complimenting him.
I told them he was doing his part for Movember (many men grow mustaches in November to raise awareness for men's health). Luke and I also dog sat this weekend for Jimo. A tumor recently ruptured on his leg so he was wearing the cone of shame. He's an old man (10 like Amelia) and we think he's going a tad senile. He would stand in the middle of the family room and bark sometimes and had to go out to pee several times in the middle of the night. The dogs all dog along well and had fun though. I'd love to have 3 labs but one thing is clear-black yoga pants (my daily uniform) and a yellow lab don't mix! Have a great week everyone!

I have two little furry shadows around the house-Amelia Peabody and Karma Brown Bear. Amelia has been slowing down recently (JD doesn't think so but I can definitely tell). She hurt one of her back legs a few weeks ago (no idea how) and she didn't walk with me one night because she could barely put any weight on it. That is literally the first time she hasn't gone on a walk (when I'm in town) in her life. It was weird going on a walk with just Karma. Amelia fell down the stairs that night (while walking up) and JD had to carry her up to go to bed. Luckily her leg healed in a few days but she's definitely an old lady. I'm happy to report that Karma is slowly getting more snugly-yay!
Thursday night was our 2nd annual Girl Scout Halloween party and...I was so busy with the kids and moms I only took 1 photo. Sorry folks. We did have fun. Everyone brought food which was served in the 'food body' centerpiece, complete with a cheese ball head and pretzel fingers. The kids had slime punch (fruit punch, sprite, sherbet..complete with black ice cubes filled with plastic spider rings). The kids participated in a few contests to win presents for their moms: how many gummy worms and candy corns were in the jar, Halloween bingo and the mom costume contest (sadly, I only had 2 votes and my kids didn't even vote for me!). The kids did a fun craft with empty milk jugs and had a fun time running around the house.
Friday morning both kids had events at school. JD watched Luke and his class perform a Halloween dance (and go trick or treating around campus) while I watched the 2nd grade at Julia's school do a storybook character parade. Each child had to dress up like their favorite storybook character and then do an oral report in front of their class. Julia chose Zarina, the Pirate Fairy, and while she looked adorable...the dress sleeves were itchy and she was not a happy camper in the costume.
Friday night the kids and I went to the Super Hero school dance at the elementary school. You may be thinking...elementary school dance? What do they do? There was pizza, music and a lot of dancing. Luke was a dancing machine, dancing so much he didn't even stop to have dinner! At one point I turned around and Julia was on the stage participating in a dance contest (she didn't win). It was a blast and we'll definitely go again next year.
Early Saturday morning a horrible storm hit our area-gusting winds, heavy rain and a tornado touched down less than 1/4 mile from our house (no one was injured but it caused a lot of damage). Our neighborhood lost power around 5am and everyone was up with the storm. I ended up having to take Luke to the doctor for pink eye (luckily the doctor was open with power) but we couldn't get his prescription filled for several hours because Walgreen's was pitch black. We attempted to go grocery shopping and there were only lights above the registers, everything else was dark. People were shopping with flashlights. We were supposed to have a group of people over for pizza before trick or treating but we didn't get power back until 7pm (we weren't even sure if we would be able to go). Tammy, Hannah, Kristen, Evey and Lauri made it over and we all went trick or treating. It was raining but that didn't stop us! I took the kids through our neighbors haunted house and they didn't tone it down this year. We were chased out by a teenager/zombie with a chainsaw so we'll see if the kids are brave enough for it next year. Hope you all had a great Halloween!
