April 30 - Dimpled Munchkins Rock the Houston Kids Triathlon

Julia and Luke competed in their 3rd triathlon this past weekend at NRG Stadium, the 'Houston Kids Triathlon.' USA Triathlon rules dictate athletes compete with their age as of 12/31 so Luke competed in the boys 9 year old division and Julia in the senior girls 11 year old division.

As a junior, Luke did a 100M swim, 3 mile bike and 1/2 mile run. JD took Luke Saturday morning and he was supposed to start at 9.15am according to the schedule. I was heading out with the girls at 8.30am and was shocked when JD called and said Luke's number was going to be called soon (they call the kids in groups of 50). We rushed to the stadium and missed his swim but we were able to see his transition from bike to run. I was a tad nervous for Luke since he was last in a pool in early September but he made it through just fine. I am so proud of him!! Go Luke go!! He placed 89/184 and looked so strong out there.

As a senior, Julia did a 200M swim, 6 mile bike and 1 mile run. I took her on Sunday and as one of the younger competitors (they go youngest to oldest) she went relatively early. She rocked it-3rd in the swim, 16th in the bike, 2nd in the run and 4th place in her age division (out of 112) and 55 out of 760. Great job Julia!

I took a lot of videos..here is one of the few pictures

Great job Yamo's!

April 22 - Happy Easter

Happy Easter everyone! We had a wonderful weekend filled with blue skies and sunshine. Saturday morning we headed to Kemah for brunch with the Easter Bunny at the Aquarium restaurant. Jillian loved the fish tank and the Bunny! We spent the evening playing outside for hours and miracle of miracles, Julia and Luke didn't argue at all.

Sunday morning the Easter Bunny came! After baskets (chocolate bunnies, new beach towels, bathing suits, water bottles and candy), the kids hunted around the house for eggs. Jillian had fun filling her basket while Julia and Luke were surprised to find some eggs filled with $1 bills!

After breakfast, the kids played outside. A missed catch resulted in a broken front window (not optimal) but JD cleaned everything up and duck taped the window for the time being. We headed over to Tammy's around 1pm and ate lunch at 2pm. We had ham, potatoes, sweet potatoes, salad, brownies and an amazing strawberry shortcake. The kids played outside for literally hours. It was a fabulous weekend!

April 16 - Cotillion Butler

So....cotillion. I'll be honest-I had no idea what this was, I don't think this is a 'thing' up north. I never heard anyone mention it in Atlanta, Austin or Gainesville. A girl from Julia's Girl Scout troop invited her to do a course earlier this year. We looked at the information and it seemed like etiquette and dance lessons. She didn't do it (it conflicted with track practice and Julia balked at the 'required dress and white gloves' dress code) but several of the boys she knows from school participated.

That brings me to Luke. Luke is an absolute perfect angel at school but very...combative.. at home. He wants to debate absolutely EVERYTHING. All the time. Last week I told him I'm signing him up for cotillion when he's in 5th grade. He indicated he didn't want to do it and I asked him if he knew what it was.

"Yes, I know what cotillion is. It's how you become a butler and I don't want to be a butler!"

OMG-guys, I almost fell over laughing!

April 15 - Fun Run

Yesterday was the North Pointe Fun Run and it was a gorgeous, perfect spring day. Sunny and 70 with no humidity. Perfect for being outside! Before the race, we took a family walk to get pizza (well, I pushed Jillian in a stroller while Julia, Luke and JD rode bikes) and then we headed to the school.

Luke ran the 1.3k and did it in just over 6min! Fantastic job Luke! He was in first place and would have won but he stopped running at the beginning of the flag finish instead of the end (there is a flag finish area, imagine a 15' flag tunnel of sorts) and another boy passed him in the flag area.

Julia ran the 5k and won the entire race (she beat everyone including the parents) in 22min. Wowsa!

April 10 - So You Think You Can Think

The second grade musical was last week and Luke was SO EXCITED. He practiced his song for weeks and was ready for it. The kids are encouraged to spray their hair fun colors and as soon as he got home from school at 3.15pm, he wanted me to do it. The concert was at 7pm so I made him wait a few hours, but he was itching to go immediately. He watched the clock and practically sprinted to school at 6.45pm!! It was adorable!

Every 2nd grade class sang a song and his was 'So You Think You Can Think.' Luke knew all the words and the dance moves, I was impressed! Great job Luke!!

April 8 - Family Museum Trip

Rare family outing! Last Sunday we went to the History Museum together and it was so fun. Julia and Luke love the dinosaurs and mummy sections while Jillian loved...running around like a wild woman! She was actually afraid of the butterflies in the rain forest and that was pretty funny.
