Luke is home sick today with the stomach flu. Poor little man! Hopefully no one else in the family gets it. In other news, I attended my first ever PTA meeting last night. We went over fundraising activities for the year, that's about it. I met a woman who has triplet boys in 5th grade and twin boys in 3rd grade. Um...could you imagine?

Happy Monday everyone! Did you have a good weekend? Ours was very nice. Luke had gymnastics on Saturday and Julia was a rock star at her soccer game (3 goals!), otherwise we relaxed at home. So, I've had a lot of questions about school so I thought I'd do a quick post to address some of them. Ready to dive in? Here we go!
How does Julia like wearing regular clothes to school?
I'd say she is indifferent. She loved her plaid jumper and red polo at Montessori so I never had a problem getting her dressed in the mornings. She seems to be fine getting dressed now. I think the toughest thing is that they have a color theme every week and she tries to color coordinate...which can be difficult when almost everything she owns is purple and pink!
When does school start? How has your morning changed?
Previously, Julia and Luke had to be at Montessori by 8:30am. I'll fully admit we weren't always on time. I'm not sure how they took an hour to eat breakfast most mornings, but they did! Now, Julia has to be at school between 8am and 8:10am (school starts at 8:15am). On a typical morning now, we get up at 7am, eat breakfast, get dressed and head out at 7:50. Luke is in the stroller, Amelia is on the leash and Julia is so excited she is trying to run ahead. We drop her off at the front entrance (Amelia cries when she goes in) and then we head home and I take Luke to school. He is there on time now!
Does Luke miss Julia at school?
No. He loves to ride in the car with me and Amelia in the mornings because he can pick the music. He and Julia were also on different side of the building (she was on the school side, he the daycare side) so they never saw each other anyway.
How are the afternoons?
So far, so good. I decided to forgo after-school care and it's working out. I pick Julia up at the kindergarten entrance around 3:05/3:10 and we walk home. She has a snack and works on homework (or fun workbook activities) while I wrap up work for the day.
Does she have homework?
Yes. Every week has a different color theme as well as a letter of the alphabet. The first week was red/A, second was blue/B, third is green/C. They are supposed to dress up in the color of the week and they learn to spell the word and songs associated with it. For the letter, they have to make an alphabet sheet. They either take stickers, photos or draw things that start with the letter and try to write the words on their own. She also has to read at least 20min a day and there are some optional but recommended match sheets.
How is Luke doing at school?
He's doing great! He loves his teacher and little friends and runs into school in the mornings. He's super excited about his art projects that he works on. He's pretty fabulous except for potty training. Two months ago I would have said he was 99% trained. He was good during the day but had accidents at night. Now....holy regression batman. He stayed dry yesterday but went through FOURTEEN pairs of undies in the previous 4 days. It's insane. He just does not want to stop playing to use the bathroom. I had to force him to go every 30-45min yesterday all day.
How is the furry baby?
Amelia is now getting 3 walks a day, so I'd say she is in dog heaven right now!

September is here and she brought with her an insane heat wave. It is crazy hot here. On Saturday the core temperature was 104 with a heat index of 124. Sunday was cooler at only 114. We've had a relatively mild summer so I shouldn't complain, but wow, it's toasty! We went to an outdoor birthday party at the park on Sunday and amazingly didn't melt. In addition to playing on the playground, the kids loved the pond filled with turtles. Here is a cute picture of the kids (with neighbors Evey and Lauri) watching the turtles.
In other news, Julia is enjoying kindergarten so far. Her favorite things are PE and lunch. The Montessori school provided lunch so she is super excited to bring her own every day. I've been helping out at lunch (her teacher recently had foot surgery) and it's been great getting to know the kids. Luke is also doing well and is really into cars, trains and Mickey Mouse. We're going to Disney in March for spring break and he talks about the trip all the time. He can't wait to see Mickey and all of the clubhouse friends! Luke is also really excited about his upcoming birthday party (yet to be planned) and talks about it constantly.
