February 22 - Go Texan Day

Happy 'Go Texan Day!' everyone! The rodeo officially starts today and all the kids dress up in their favorite cowboy/cowgirl attire for school. Julia (or "Aurora" as she wants to be called) was so excited she picked out her outfit last night and went to bed early.

7:45pm last night:

"Mom, get out of my room.  I have to go to sleep early because 'Go Texan Day' is tomorrow."

Our little man on the other hand...who usually wears his cowboy boots almost every day.. didn't want to put them on! He ended up wearing them. I forgot to get him a hat but he looks pretty snazzy in his plaid shirt.

Happy Friday everyone!

February 19 - A Spot of Tea

"I'm the princess. Luke is a prince. Mom is the Queen. Dad is the Duke and Amelia is the furry baby." - Princess Aurora (her name of the last few days)

"Shouldn't we call her the Royal Dog?" - Queen

"No. She's just the furry baby." - Princess Aurora

****

"What would you guys like to drink this morning? Milk or juice?" - Queen

"I'll take a spot of tea. That's what princesses drink you know. A spot of tea." - Princess Aurora

"Here's some milk. Just pretend it's tea." - Queen

****

"Lincoln (4 yr old friend from school) is in love with me." - Princess Aurora

"Oh, how do you know that?" - Queen

"Because he held my hand at Jewel's birthday party and he tried to kiss me." - Princess Aurora

February 6 - Cheerleading!

Okay...this post is three months late, but better late than never, right?

League City STARS
Julia joined her first cheer squad last fall through Young Champions of America.  She was part of the junior varsity team (ages 4 to 6) and it was a blast! Also great-it was pay as you go. There was no long term commitment, big deposits or anything along those lines ($6 per class). Practice was once a week at a local elementary school. The cheer competition was optional and most of the girls participated.

The Uniform
Once I wrapped my head around the fact that they have a competition for 4 year olds (crazy!!) it was time to order the uniform. They had their classic shell and skirt, then we had to get white socks and white sneakers. One of the mom's made hair bows and shoe bows. Super cute! A few days before the competition, our coach decided that the girls needed to wear a long white sleeve shirt under the shell. After visiting 3 different Wal-Mart's, I finally found one the night before the competition at the mall. Success!

The Competition: Morning
The competition was held at a high school in north Houston, about an hour from our house. We planned to leave at 8am to get there by 9am. But the best laid plans....

7:30am: I find Julia's white shirt (which I left on the counter the night before...next to a giant cooler where a turkey was brining for our holiday party) SOAKING WET! I have zero sense of smell so I thought the cooler leaked and turkey juice was all over it. I immediately tossed the shirt in the washing machine.

7:40am: JD gets up and informs me it was just wet from condensation. I throw the shirt into the dryer and hope for the best.

8:20am: The shirt was still damp but we had to leave. We get to the highway and realize we left Julia's pom pom's at the house. Doh! We turn around and head back home. I spent the remainder of the drive drying the white shirt using the air vents (it worked!).

Although we were a little late for check in, there was a huge rain storm that morning and a lot of people were running late.

Don't Mess With Texas
Texas is serious about cheerleading-no joke. There were 3 different team divisions (small, medium and large group). We competed in the 'small group' division and there were about 5 teams per group. There were judges there from OUT OF STATE (!!!), including an NFL Arizona Cardinals cheerleader. We were in a high school gym that was literally packed with people-and it was just the 4-6 year olds!

Go STARS!
The team did awesome!! I posted a video on facebook in December, but for those of you who haven't seen it yet, here it is on youtube (Julia is third from the left). Their team placed 3rd and we couldn't be prouder!!

As you can see in the photo at the top, Julia was very proud of herself and LOVED her trophy!!

She signed up again and this time around, Emma is doing it to.

Practicing their growl. Grr!

Happy Wednesday everyone!
