February 27 - WIRED Banquet

After three years, WIRED has finally come to an end. The end of season banquet was this past weekend and the team was honored with medals for their 2nd place finish at the regional competition (they were initially third but there was a scoring error and they were elevated to 2nd). The lead mentor, Mr. Q, gave a speech about every 8th grader. I intended to record the speech but accidentally didn't hit 'record' (oops) but he said Luke is one of the most talented programmers they have had in the history of WIRED (20+ years) and he is a 'master of quotes'. Luke gave a speech (off the cuff). He forgot to thank JD for his help but otherwise was pretty funny. Congratulations Luke and what a journey!

February 26 - Brrrr It's Cold Out Here

Last weekend was the 12U Short Course Championship meet and our little sprite swam on Saturday. She swam a 25FR, 25BR and the 3rd leg in a relay and she had so much fun with her teammates and coaches. She sat in the pool area with the team and every time I saw her, she was laughing, dancing and looked like she was having an absolute blast. As for me? I was outside with a few team moms in 40 degree weather. We had blankets and a heater and it was tolerable for a little while until it started torrential downpour. And while we were under a tent, we quickly realized the canopy had holes everywhere. It was quite an experience! The things we do for our kids LOL.

Love this little cutie

Cold moms!

February 13 - February Madness

I'm hereby designating February as 'February Madness' because the schools are scheduling so many activities, it's reminiscent of December (all things winter) and May (all things end of year). We're only 2 weeks in and it's craziness!

Jillian's school participated in a school wide book club, reading "School Days According to Humphrey" in January.  Everyone read a chapter a night and then classrooms compete in trivia every morning. After completing the book, kids auditioned for a 'Humphrey' play for went to school early for 2 weeks for rehearsals. The play was last week and our very own Jillian did a great job as one of the students in Humphrey's class, "Rosie." Congratulations Jillian!

While I was with Julia at the region swim meet last weekend, JD was with Jillian at the North Pointe school fair, the biggest fundraiser of the year. She had so much fun, with her favorite booth being 'Pick the Nose.' Kids have to put their hand up a giant nose and pull out snots (spaghetti) and she thought it was hilarious!  Luke and Riley were there working a booth to earn volunteer hours.

Last night was "Fit Night" at the elementary school which included all sorts of fun activities like gaga ball, bowling and a mini-ninja course. There were all booths set up from vendors, including Kendall, who is working on her Girl Scout Gold Award. We also saw performances by a cheer squad and martial arts group (which included Luke's best friend, Shawn). What a week! And tomorrow we have a Valentine's party at school. Never a dull moment!

Luke has also been busy. He is back at swim practice 2-3 days a week, goes into school early one day a week for extra band practice (required) and we celebrated my birthday at a "trumpet solo concert" in the library at his school. Busy busy busy!

February 12 - Regions

And just like that, another season of HS swim comes to an end. The region championship meet was last weekend in Cy-Fair Natatorium (which is still the nicest HS facility I've ever seen, nicer than most colleges). While Julia didn't have lifetime best times, she had her best times of the season. She qualified for the B final in both of her individual events, placing 12th in both the 50F and 100F. She anchored the 200MR, placing 4th and she swam the 3rd leg of the 400FR relay, placing 5th. She had great relay splits and we're very proud of her! The girls team placed 3rd out of 18 teams and the boys team placed 10th out of 19 teams. Amazing job for all the swimmers!

Congratulations Lake!

February 5 - On Wednesday's We Wear Pink

If you have the opportunity to see Mean Girls, GO! This past Sunday, Teresa and I went to see the show at the Hobby Center and it was fantastic! The singing, the dancing, the sets, everything! We had so much fun and almost everyone in the audience was wearing, you guessed it, pink. So fetch!

February 4 - District Champions AGAIN

Clear Lake HS competed in the district championship meet Friday and the girls came home with the WIN for the second year in the row! Julia had a decent meet, placing 3rd in the 50F, 5th in the 100F, 1st in 200FR and 2nd in 400FR. I am super proud of all the swimmers-next stop, regionals this coming weekend. Go Lake!
