Glenville & Burnt Hills - Day 1
We traveled from Penn Station to Rensselaer via train and then headed to the Albany Airport to pick up a rental car. After that, we headed to my hometown, Glenville for a late lunch and then drove by the house I grew up in. Next, we drove past my middle school and high school in Burnt Hills. The kids were very surprised (to put it mildly) at how rural the area was. Driving by a farm on the way to high school is definitely NOT something you see in Houston!
Six Flags Great Escape - Day 2
Our first full-day upstate was spent at the Great Escape amusement park. There is a small addition to the back of the park that is new, otherwise the rest of the park doesn't appear to have changed much since I was last there in 1996. Our first ride was The Adirondack Outlaw and it's one of the best rides I have EVER been on. I absolutely loved it! It was so intense Julia actually felt sick afterwards and had to sit out a few rides until her stomach calmed down. In exciting news, Jillian was tall enough to do almost every ride at the park (not the Outlaw) and she rode her first upside down rollercoaster, The Steamin' Demon.
In true Yamo fashion, she loved it! Go Jillian! Jillian was also a huge fan of the little storybook houses throughout the park and she was literally obsessed with the Alice and Wonderland area (which included a door into a tree, a walkthrough static exhibit and small trail with characters). She walked through that area at least 20x, wanted to play games in there and at one point (while role playing Alice) shouted "Run run, as fast as you can. You can't catch me, I'm Alice in Wonderland!" Julia and Luke also did the Dare Devil dive, which is kind of bungy jumping simulator which they loved. Overall, it was a great day at the park and best of all, the weather was very cool, only 75-80.

Jiminy Peak is a small ski mountain in the Berkshires, just over the MA/NY border, about an hour drive from where I grew up. We used to go night skiing here in HS and the last time I was here (winter break in college), my dad took my friend Kristin and I skiing (her boot cracked on the mountain, I'll never forget it LOL). The resort is not a 'destination' town per say like Vail, Breck, etc. so it was pretty much EMPTY. We had an absolutely blast. They had an alpine slide, mountain coaster, trampoline, climbing wall and a zip line course. Jillian was tall enough to do everything (even the big zip line course, being 48" is so awesome!). We stayed there all day until the place closed down. The Alpine slide was JD, Julia, Luke & Jillian's favorite, while mine was the zip line course. This trip was an absolutely highlight of our entire trip. Loved it!
Last day in NY. We went mini golfing in Lake George and guess who won easily? Julia! We all had fun and everyone got at least one hole-in-one. After golfing, we had lunch with a water view and then went on the Minne Haha boat tour around Lake George. After that, we did some shopping and had some local ice cream. Fun day!
Next stop: Boston!
